Truthfully, Eric and I have been missing Utah like crazy. Starting a life in a new place is difficult, and although I knew that (thank you parents for a cross country move when I was 15), I'm relearning it all over again. Don't get me wrong, we're happy, and we know this is where we're supposed to be, but that doesn't make it easy.
Enter the OC Tanner "Gift of Music Gala Concert." As a Shaver family, we all entered the lottery for tickets. As luck would have it, I won and so did my parents. We knew it wasn't feasible for all of the Hornes to go, so my weekend "alone" quickly took shape.
Of my roommates in college, one is in the Mormon Tabernacle choir (thus, required to be there) and two are diehard James Taylor fans. It was pretty much the perfect storm to get us all to Salt Lake City.
Post concert, Desiree (Motab'er extraordinairre), Deveney, and me:
Plus Desiree's husband, Chuck (who was a really good sport about hangin' with the JT crazy girls):
The concert was great, but lunches, shopping, and chatting with my friends were the ultimate best.
Friday night, my most favorite friends from Springville came up and met my parents and me for dinner. It's a dang good thing that 1. My parents were there, because I would never have left Melanie and Alisha and 2. We weren't in Springville, because I think the new owners of our house would be quite surprised to have me try to start moving back in. There aren't even words for how great seeing my dear friends made me feel. I really, really needed that. And a cream cheese brownie from Kneaders.
View from my hotel room, ah, City Creek:
When I started plotting this adventure in my mind, Eric challenged me to name one James Taylor song. Nailed it! Ok, name two songs. Uh? Not so much.
I'll admit it, I used James Taylor. But, given the chance, I'd do it all over again.
(For the record, I did recognize more songs once at the concert).
Also, I need to mention that Eric went above and beyond to make this an amazing trip for me. He really took one for the team on this one. That man loves me. And wants me to stay sane ;) But mostly loves me.
