I've been through a variety of emotions last night/today and I have decided to just enjoy the bonus time.  The hospital is still very busy, so we're just waiting.  Nothing like the good old fashioned way of leaving it up to God ;)

I wrote a post about last weekend being "the last weekend" but it never felt right, and I never got around to publishing it.  I guess maybe its because we have another weekend in us after all.

Thanks everyone for your love and support!

Induction Postponed

Audrey's induction tomorrow morning has been postponed due to the hospital being too crowded. I am taking it a little harder than expected and Maggie has resorted to throwing back cold ones :(

Today we had the saddest and funniest potty training moment by far.

Amos is doing a stellar job and is "tinkle trained."  He's also made the jump to the big toilet (i.e. not the "potty").  It is a crack-up to see him sit there and he loves to say he's just like Dada =)  Along with the big toilet comes flushing, and he really likes that part.  He and Maggie usually get together and peek over the edge and say "bye, bye tinkles!" as the water swirls away.  Well, today they were doing just that when Amos accidentally dropped his underwear into the toilet.  The timing was impeccable and it whooshed right away.  He lunged for it, but it was gone in a flash.  He was heartbroken.  I have never seen him wail so hard. I guess that loving relationship with underwear I worked so hard to cultivate is real.  Hopefully he'll forgive the toilet soon.

Now let's just hope the toilet isn't clogged...

We are barely hanging in there these past couple weeks.  I am totally physically spent and the kids have been a little under the weather, making them very needy.  Needy kids + needy mom = bad.  We have still managed to find some activities that work for all of us though.  Painting is the #1 favorite.  I get to sit there and watch, and the kids love it.  Its pretty cute too...
Amos likes to paint lots of "mamas" "dadas" and "train tracks."

Maggie just sings: "brush, brush, brush" as she paints.

And, yes, all of the colors are black at this point.

2, 3, & Soon to Be!

I have been procrastinating this post since the pictures didn't turn out great, but since its 4:50 p.m. and I have no dinner plan I thought maybe now was a good time to write it.  Yep, its the lesser of two evils for my lazy butt.

I have a serious love for all things party...decor, food, outfits, invitations, favors, you name it.  I waste endless hours reading blogs like Hostess with the Mostess and Amy Atlas Events.  Earlier this summer, I was itching to have another party and Eric came up with the great idea for the "2, 3, & Soon to Be!" party.  With new baby Horne, Amos, and Maggie's birthdays all being within a month of each other, it seemed fun to have a joint party while they're all too young to care.

Anyway, here are some of the details...

The invitations:
The pre-party photo shoot & outfits:

The set-up/decorations:

I seriously have no understanding of how people get ready for, photograph, and/or host a party at the same time.  I am thinking hiring a photographer would probably be a worthwhile expense for me in the future.  I lost the light, had to change my shirt, and was still putting out food as the guest were arriving, and it all led to some sad looking pictures.  Oh well.  I guess this is going to be one of those, "I guess you had to be there" things.

The party favors:
Pinwheel pencils for the older kids and play-doh for the younger kids.

The cake:

A costco special.  I literally phoned it in on all of the food, but no one seemed to mind.

The party was a great success, and I am sure of that because Amos hasn't stopped talking about it.  I love that he is so excited that all of his friends came to play, and none of the rest of it even matters.

Amos Monkey

A few weeks ago, when we were visiting my parents for Labor Day, Grammy was entertaining Amos with drawings during Sacrament meeting.  Amos was making requests, and Grammy was filling them.  At one point Amos changed his request mid-stream and Grammy accommodated, resulting in the "Amos Monkey":
Does that guy look familiar?  Yeah, we giggled a lot.  Eric was totally appalled that we would be so irreverent during the Sacrament.  Amos is still requesting lots of "Amos Monkeys" and I am not doing the original any justice at all.  Amos still likes them though.

Grammy is just glad she didn't totally traumatize him.

7 Days

Today was our 7th day of potty training.  Its been a very long 7 days.  There have been lots of good moments, but there have been lots of bad moments too.  I've cried a few times, and seriously contemplated quitting.

I'm sorry if you're super sick of hearing about this, but I thought I'd share some things I've learned just in case they might help someone else.

1. For us, its been a very "throw everything at the wall and see what sticks" situation (otherwise known as trial and error).

2. Don't read too much on the Internet.  Its good to get some ideas and tips, but you can drive yourself crazy.  They really don't make a surefire way to be a parent.

3. Excitement/happiness/peppy attitude really is required.

4. Don't take the accidents personally.  I took it really hard when Amos and Maggie had/have accidents, but its really not about me.  At all.

5. Every day is a new day.

And now, because this is what I want to remember from all this, an Amosism:

Amos and I have been talking about holding it and he seemed to understand.  A couple days ago he came up stairs and told me he had to go.  I asked if he was "holding it" and he said, "yeah, see."  He was holding his tummy, thinking that was holding it in.  He did good, but we had another discussion about "holding it."  Well, today he came upstairs again, only this time he was literally holding it.  Yep, poop in his hand.  Holding it.

World's Best Popsicles

I am happy to say that Amos has joined the ranks of Popsicle recipients.  Both he and Maggie have had a good amount of Popsicles in the last two days, and it is GREAT.  I have to say, seeing Amos' face light up the first time he went in the toilet was a definite highlight.  We've still got lots of work to do, but we're moving forward.

And, I am pretty sure my positive reinforcement is working.  This morning, out of the blue, Amos said to me: "Amos makes you smile.  Amos makes you happy."  He is so right.

Training Day

Ah, the inevitable potty training post.  I have two toddlers, what did you expect?

Let's see, where to begin?  Potty training has been in the back of my mind for a long time.  The way back.  With all of the trips/visitors/crazy schedules I just kept putting it off until we had time to really focus on it.  We tried for one day in June, but then booked another trip the next week and decided we didn't have enough time to really follow through.  In June, we made it as far as Amos sitting on the toilet making farting noises.  With his mouth.  Maggie sat on the toilet and clapped.

That brings us to today.  With New Baby Horne 2.0 arriving shortly, I decided now is the time.  Potty training seems way less painful than having three kids in diapers.  I think.  So, last night Amos and I went on a special trip to the store.  He picked out his own underwear and his own reward (popsicles).  He carried them all through the store, to the car, and then raced in the house to show Dada.  A very promising start if you ask me.

This morning was another story.  He was still so excited about his underwear, but not so excited about sitting on the toilet.  He had 4 accidents without even seeming to notice.  I was pretty overwhelmed by the afternoon when he refused to try at all.  I took away his underwear as punishment.  He actually was really sad about that, and sat on the toilet so he could have his underwear back.  At one point, he sat on the toilet "trying" for 10 minutes without ever going.  He went a minute later in the bath.

In the meantime...I had decided to try with just Amos, so I could really focus on him and then move on to Maggie.  Well, Maggie wasn't having any of that.  She spent all morning with a pair of Amos' underwear on over her diaper (that she put there herself).  I finally gave in and let her wear underwear.  Every time I put Amos on the toilet she insisted on trying too.  I figured there's no harm in that.  Then, just before Eric got home from work, Maggie jumped up from trying and said, "I did it!"  Sure enough, she did it.  We were still celebrating when Eric walked in the door.

So, Maggie became the first popsicle recipient.

She even picked Amos' favorite color =P

I don't know if this guy will ever live it down that his sister went on the potty before he did.  And, he's still making farting noises with his mouth.

I can't wait to wake up and do it all again tomorrow...I should be the one to get to pick out whatever treat I want at the store.

More Boise

Last weekend we finally planned ahead and thought to head to Boise for the long weekend.  It never fails on three day weekends that we're sitting at home bored thinking, why didn't we go to Boise?  Anyway, this time we did it and we didn't get bored.  Not for one second.

The cousins have more and more fun everytime they get together.  It is so fun to see them get along.  They spent hours riding their "bikes" around the pool.

They had races:
And, naturally, they jumped off cars:

 Amos perfected "crash-up":

Eric perfected the relaxation station:

And I perfected the pregnancy good night sleep drug cocktail (2 tums, 3 tylenol, 1 unisom):
We missed them a lot, but for some reason it felt like the Sookhoos were with us the whole time:
One last shot of the "little" cousins:
Thanks to the family for so much fun!

Maggie's House

The other day when I went in to get Maggie up from her nap I found this:
I could hear her, but where was Maggie?

In Maggie's house!  When I tried to get her up she said, "No.  House."  How she got that hamper up and into her bed I will never know...

I guess Amos isn't the only one with a house.
