God Bless America

I think this year might have been my best 4th of July ever. As part of our "living a little" agenda, we did all of the fun things we wanted to and just enjoyed them.

Eric's parents are here, and I have to say, they are pretty good enablers. They are such good helpers with Amos, Maggie, and anything else we need, getting stuff done is so much easier. I have decided that I may be the person most spoiled by visits from the Grandparents.

A little pre-fourth practicing:

Friday morning Eric, Nan and Pop, and Amos went to see the hot air balloons lift off while Maggie and I slept in. I would say it was a definite win for everybody.

On the morning of the 4th we went to the parade. It was really fun and really hot. We planned ahead, and it paid off. Eric and Nan went and marked out some spots for us on Friday, and Nan and Pop went early on Saturday to make sure they were secure. We brought chairs, drinks, and food, and paraded quite nicely.

On the night of the 4th we had a really fun party with everyone we could convince to spend time with us. I hope everyone had as much fun as I did, and I have to say it made my night when I heard more than one child say it was their best 4th ever. We had a bbq, played a little outside, and then the menfolk put on quite the display of fireworks.

We had so many fireworks the boys tired of lighting them individually, so they resorted to serious measures:

After the fireworks we had a little fire for some smores. Luckily (?) Eric remembered we still had our Christmas tree laying around the side of the house, so we had a little extra firewood:

And, after:

There is so much more stuff we did this weekend, but I think this is enough for one post. Needless to say, we all slept an extra lot on Sunday, and Monday. Again, such a great weekend! Thanks to everybody for all the memories. I am extremely grateful we're still on vacation too!
